What makes great coffee ?
There are several variables that count when making a good coffee. Pick your favorite beans. Coffee beans differ in where and how they were grown. And not only that. Also how the beans were branded and how you grind the beans will have an effect on your coffee.
The easiest way is to go to your favorite coffee shop and order your favorite coffee.
Nevertheless sometimes you need to make a great coffee at home. There are several methods to make your own favorite coffee:
Vacuum Press
Vacuum press coffee, also known as Siphon coffee, is also easy to make. The link below shows a device that is hand powered. Great for the outdoors!!
You add boiling water to the water chamber (If you have an electric device, you can even use cold water) and drop your coffee grounds in to the coffee basket. For this one you have to twist the ring on the top to create a vacuum that draws the water to the top of the bottle. Keep twisting till all water from the water reservoir is pressed through the filter into the upper part.
Look at you, you made yourself a great coffee. Enjoy !!
Drip Machine
Drip coffee is one of the easiest ways to make a coffee. Or a full pot of coffee at once. It doesn’t require many steps and/or much cleaning.
For a drip machine you fill a filter with coffee grounds and add cold water to the reservoir. Use filtered or bottled water if possible. Turn the device on and in minutes the coffee will be ready for your enjoyment.
Pour Over
Before I had a percolator, the pour over method was my favorite while camping. It is super easy and creates awesome coffee.
Put the coffee into your filter and set the filter on top of pot or cup. Then pour in boiling water. It will take a bit for the water to drip through the filter, but when done, your coffee is already ready to drink. Enjoy !!!
French Press
Also the French press method is really easy. Boil some water and add the coffee grounds to your French Press. Then pour in the boiling water. While waiting the 4 minutes for the coffee to steep, you can swirl a bit to enrich the flavour. Then press the filter down to get the coffee grounds to the bottom.
Pour the coffee into your cup. You did it!! Enjoy your great coffee
Tip: use medium roasted coffee grounds for the best coffee.

Percolator
A percolator is an iconic little metal two-story hexagonal stove top coffee maker. The first benefit is that it doesn’t use power. So great for camping.
The percolator uses pressure extraction, like for making espresso. Put water in the base and add the filter. Add your coffee ground into the filter. More coffee grounds = stronger coffee.
Then screw the top part onto your percolator. Heat the water on an electric stove or (camping) propane burner.
When the water starts boiling it will flow through the filter into the top part of your percolator, creating a wonderful coffee.
Coffee Grinder
A coffee grinder doesn’t really make you the coffee. But as a coffee lover I want to grind my own beans. Grinding your beans just before you make your coffee result in so much more flavour.
Of course the type of grinder makes a huge difference. It is the same as it is personal how you like your coffee. It is also personal how to grind your coffee beans.
I personally use a simple (and cheaper) grinder that just has one setting. If you are willing to spend more there are also grinders that have settings for size and time. Click the link below to find out more.
